UFC 227: Dillashaw vs Garbrandt Results

Skip Past Paragraphs for Results

UFC 227 was an event showed quite a change in multiple divisions. At featherweight we saw the long time top contender and gate keeper take a fall from grace in a quick defeat to a young contender who shows promise in Moicano. The days of the Killer Cub appear to be coming to a halt. In the women's strawweight division we China's top ranked female fighter make her debut in the Octagon with an exciting performance. Zhang came out ready for war in her usual fashion with an arsenal of strikes mixed well that went from head, legs, to the body, and all with bad intentions. Her win streak extends to 17 straight! Let's see if she can become a force in the division.

TJ Dillashaw has appeared to have solidified himself as the best bantamweight ever. He has left even less doubt in that. Dillashaw and former teammate Garbrandt came out ready for war. Garbrandt seemed to be more focused on throwing kicks than usual. Garbrandt's bad habit of throwing the first strike in a combination and dropping his hands after did catch up to him at one point during the short duration of the bout. Dillashaw would go on to rock the Team Alpha Male star and finish him off with a few knee strikes to cranium against the cage and quick few punches. Dillashaw has beaten Renan Barao twice during the high point of his career, avenged his controversial loss to Assuncao who has proven himself to be one of the most difficult match ups stylistically for nay bantamweight, defeated top bantamweight John Lineker in dominating fashion, and has finished one of the most dangerous bantamweights ever seen in former champ Cody Garbrandt twice in the area of Garbrandt's strength. He has defeated fighters of a higher caliber than any other bantamweight rather you're looking at Cruz, Barao, or Garbrandt. He still does have that close split decision loss to Cruz who most likely tuned into this bout to see which man he must encounter once more to attain the highest of titles in the sport.

In the Co-Main Event we saw history be made in Cejudo's split decision victory over Demetrious Johnson. Many fans felt it could go either way and many fans seem content with the decision but the majority are confident Cejudo did win. Johnson believes he injured his LCL and broke his foot. He was humble afterwards and said he will focus on getting healthy again and improving and not talking. Cejudo immediately called out the winner of Dillashaw vs Garbrandt and Dillashaw the victor of that bout accepted. Cejudo can be a great benefit to the UFC and possibly really help them get into the Latin-American market. He could possibly even use his leverage to settle the trilogy with Johnson in Mexico City possibly in front of a big crowd on higher elevation. The history books will remember this.
